New council CEO looks to climate change challenge

Posted August 18, 2008 11:11:00

The new head of the Mount Alexander Shire says one of his priorities will be helping the council adapt to climate change.

Phil Rowland is the new chief executive officer (CEO) from today.

He has previously worked in councils in Melbourne and Sydney, and specialised in community and environment services.

He says the Mount Alexander council has been proactive on climate change, and he is looking forward to taking it further.

"The community's looking for local government to provide some leadership and demonstrate leadership around actions that the community can take to ensure that we're sustainable over the longer term," he said.

"As I said council's done a lot of work in getting their planning and policy framework for that right over the last couple of years, now there's a major challenge to work with the community and actually get some of that happening on the ground."
