Feedback sought on north Qld NewsRadio plan

Posted August 18, 2008 14:27:00

The Australian Communications and Media Authority is seeking public submissions on its proposal to make the ABC's NewsRadio service available in north Queensland.

The proposal is part of a broader plan to extend ABC services to all Australian regions with a population of at least 10,000 people.

Authority spokesman Tony George says several local operators would have to change their current frequencies to accommodate NewsRadio.

"These include 4TAB racing service at Charters Towers, at translator for a community service at Bowen that's actually currently not on the air and a narrowcast dance music station in Townsville," he said.

"So we're seeking public submissions on those changes and we believe that alternative frequencies can be found for the affected services."
