Govt offers help amid reports of more Riviera job losses

Posted August 19, 2008 12:37:00

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says staff losing their positions at a Gold Coast boat builder will be able to access a worker replacement and training scheme.

Ms Bligh was commenting on reports Riviera will shed another 120 jobs from its Coomera base.

She says the current economic conditions have had an impact.

"Ultimately these are very commercial enterprises, they're big exporters and they're doing very well on the world stage," she said.

"Obviously when you see exchange rates going up and down you'll often see business go up and down. I hope that what's happening at Riviera is temporary and doesn't bode ill for the rest of the industry."
