Logue Brook dam

The Liberal Party plans to open Logue Brook dam.

The Labor Party has attacked a plan by the Liberal Party to open Logue Brook Dam for recreational use if it wins the election.

The Liberal Party says it would open the dam near Harvey for recreation and to supply Perth with water.

The government closed the dam to the public in May this year so it can supply water to Perth by 2010.

The Minister for Water Resources, John Kobelke, says allowing the dam to be used for recreational purposes will lower the standard of the water and put the public's health at risk.

"It's actually committing to things without doing the work, Knowing what it's going to cost and knowing what the risk to the health of the people of Western Australia will be," he said.

"By lowering drinking water standards, allowing motorboats on to a drinking water reservoir, that doesn't happen anywhere else in Australia."
