Police probe aerosol can fires

Posted August 19, 2008 13:00:00

Albury police are investigating three fires overnight, two of them involving explosives made from aerosol cans.

In Lavington, at 10:00pm AEST, a motorist saw a fire in a telephone booth on the corner of Union Road and Parkland Crescent.

An aerosol can and other items were found inside when the fire was put out.

A ute was also set alight outside a house in Hicks Place just after 11:00pm.

And a fire was started on the patio of a house in Green Place about 2:00am - an aerosol can and a burnt methylated spirits bottle was found nearby.

Inspector Lynelle Rodwell urges residents to be on alert for suspicious behaviour.

"There may be a couple of pranksters out there having a bit of fun at the expense of others and it's important to just remain aware of your own surroundings," she said.

"Be conscious of what's going on in and around your premises, if your dog starts barking go out and have a look and see if you can see anything."
