Push on to solve wild dog woes

Posted August 19, 2008 13:09:00

There will be a further attempt today to solve the Monaro's wild dog problem.

Last week, the New South Wales Farmers Association organised a meeting at Cooma of stakeholders to discuss the worsening situation, caused by animals coming out of the Namadgi National Park in the adjoining ACT.

There have been reports of up to 40 sheep being either killed or mauled by wild dogs in a single night.

The Member for Monaro, Steve Whan, says there is a real determination to get control measures in place.

"It was really pleasing to see at the meeting in Cooma representatives from a whole range of different bodies, farmers' groups themselves, the farmers affected, the ACT parks service along there with NSW National Parks, State Forests and the Department of Primary Industries, so it was a really positive meeting," he said.
