Minister urged to green light Scone water plan

Posted August 19, 2008 13:28:00

The Minister for Planning is being urged to sign off on plans for Scone's $16 million water supply upgrade.

The water augmentation scheme includes a pipeline between Glenbawn Dam and Scone.

There are also plans for a pipeline water treatment plant, and extending the pipeline to Aberdeen and Murrurundi in coming years.

Upper Hunter Mayor Barry Rose says the project cannot go to tender until the Planning Minister approves the plans.

"This is not just about providing a water supply for Scone and Aberdeen, but it also incorporates providing a decent supply for Murrurundi, and I think that's a very important part of this whole project," he said.

"Murrurundi had very serious difficulties during the recent drought, and we'll get more droughts. We can bet on it."
