A Cairns jury has been shown a video of police interviewing a man accused of murdering a 14-month-old girl in far north Queensland.

The 19-year-old Palm Island man is pleading not guilty in the Supreme Court to murdering his girlfriend's child in mid-November last year.

The court heard a post-mortem examination showed the girl died from severe and repeated trauma to the abdomen and that she had severe bruising on the genitals.

The jury was shown a video of police interviewing the accused.

He told officers he had used the handles of a razor and hairbrush to assault the child.

The accused said he felt angry at often being left to look after the child.

He then re-enacted how he allegedly elbowed and kneed the girl's stomach.

The accused broken down crying several times during the interview.

The trial will continue today.
