Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has arrived in the tiny nation of Niue for two days of meetings with leaders from throughout the Pacific.

Niue has just 1,100 residents and many of them lined the fence at the airport to see Kevin Rudd, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark and other Pacific leaders arrive.

At the airport Mr Rudd had to drink from a coconut and declare that he had come to the island in peace.

Students from Niue high school gave the leaders a warm and noisy welcome as the performed a traditional Takalo war challenge.

Mr Rudd has gone into a meeting with Niue's Premier. Talks with other Pacific leaders begin early tomorrow morning.
