Earlier restart for Pioneer Sugar Mill crushing

Posted August 20, 2008 10:20:00

The Pioneer Sugar Mill near Brandon restarted crushing at midday AEST yesterday, almost two weeks earlier than expected.

Operations were halted at the mill two months ago after a clarifier tank ruptured and fell over.

The executive general manager of CSR Sugar Mills, Mark Day, says the three weeks of recent wet weather provided an offset while construction continued.

"Our calculations said if we were back early September it was about a week-and-a-half extension so we've beaten the early September deadline by a little bit, so it will be somewhere around a week," he said.
