Minister up-beat about Grand Pacific Drive allure

Posted August 20, 2008 13:00:00

Federal Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson says he is confident the Grand Pacific Drive, north of Wollongong, will continue to draw visitors, despite rising petrol prices.

Mr Ferguson was in the Illawarra yesterday to officially launch the route, which won a marketing award in September last year.

He says people will take the opportunity to visit the Illawarra and the south coast, despite increasing fuel costs.

"I think people not only in the region, but also in Sydney and beyond, understand that just to come down here you've got terrific scenic opportunities also wonderful beaches," he said.

"Actually prepared to put your hand in your pocket and spend the money to experience these wonderful tourism opportunities."
