Meeting to discuss Picton Rd truck concerns

Posted August 20, 2008 13:02:00

Wollondilly council has called a meeting of stakeholders to discuss what they say will be an extra 35,000 trucks on Picton Road per year starting in November.

A New South Wales Government plan to shift car imports from Sydney's White Bay to Port Kembla will contribute to the increase in trucks carrying cars north to Sydney.

Wollondilly Mayor Judith Hannan says she is concerned by the current level of road safety on Picton Road and is worried the increase could lead to more accidents.

The chief executive officer of the Port Kembla Port Corporation, Dom Figliomeni, says his organisation will attend the meeting early next month, but he does not believe there is cause for concern

"The environmental impact study showed that all the transport arteries and corridors have the capacity to handle the additional load and at this stage we feel comfortable with that assessment," he said.
