WWI soldier's remains unearthed in Belgium

Posted August 20, 2008 19:03:00

British archaeologists have found the remains of an Australia World War I soldier during an excavation in Belgium.

The archaeology team was working in an area where the Battle of Messines took place in 1917.

The Australian Government says badges and buttons found with the remains may help identify the body.

The Government says the remains are likely to be reinterred at a Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Belgium later this year.
