Former glam rocker and convicted paedophile Gary Glitter has been refused entry to Hong Kong after being thrown out of Thailand, the British foreign ministry says.

Chinese authorities told London that they denied the 64-year-old entry at 11:00pm (local time).

He was earlier declared "persona non grata" by the Thai authorities.

Glitter refused to board a plane to his native Britain, where a hostile reception awaits him after Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said he should not be allowed to leave once he returns.

He had been booked to fly from Thailand to London, but complained of chest pains.

Thai authorities agreed for him to go to Hong Kong, but now Glitter - real name Paul Francis Gadd - is looking for a yet another Asian destination to accept him.

Glitter arrived in Thailand from Vietnam after spending two years and nine months in jail for committing obscene acts with the two girls aged 11 and 12 in the southern resort town of Vung Tau in 2005.
