The State Government has promised an extra $7 million to combat graffiti and vandalism if it wins the election.

A new Closed Circuit Television Video (CCTV) grants program, costing $1 million a year, would be used to buy up to 150 video cameras, and $600,000 would be spent on improving surveillance at Mullaloo and Scarborough beaches.

The Community Safety Minister, John Kobelke says the government is serious about cracking down on vandalism.

"This will more than double the graffiti reduction fund of one million dollars per year," he said.

"So in addition to the grant program for CCTV, we're also putting extra money into the cleanup, so we can actually have that graffiti removed.

"We've already put in place a graffiti program with a hotline where people can report it and we already have people out there cleaning up graffiti, but we want to see a much quicker response time. We want to see more of these vandals caught."
