Posted August 21, 2008 14:24:00

Authorities are trying to catch people who have been illegally taking firewood from a Wimmera nature reserve.

The wood is being removed from the Illawarra Nature Conservation Reserve near Stawell.

Parks Victoria's John Harris says a remote cameras been set up in the reserve in the hope of identifying those taking the firewood.

"It's certainly one of the hot spots, or probably the hot spot in the Wimmera at the moment and we are quite determined to catch the perpetrators," he said.

"We've certainly increased our ranger patrols and surveillance there and it's really only a matter of time before we nab the people involved."
