Investors sought for paper mills

Posted August 22, 2008 08:33:00

The future of Australian Paper's mills at Wesley Vale and Burnie is uncertain, with its parent company seeking potential investors in the company.

The move is in response to a 10 per cent fall in profits during the past financial year.

Paperlinx recorded an after tax profit of more than $72 million.

Australian Paper employs 400 people at its north-West mills.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union's Donna Sargent says potential international investors have already inspected the two sites.

"Most of the interest appears to be from the Middle East Asia type of area," Ms Sargent said.

"Apparently there also has been some Japanese people looking at the business on the mainland and I think there were some here yesterday as well."
