Hockeyroos finish fifth in Beijing

Posted August 22, 2008 15:18:00

The Australian women's hockey team's Olympic campaign came to an end in Beijing on Friday with a 2-0 victory over the Great Britain.

In a play-off for fifth place, the Hockeyroos saw off their rivals with goals either side of half-time to Hope Munro and Madonna Blyth.

The Hockeyroos were bundled out of medal contention on Wednesday morning after a 2-2 draw with host China, which needed only a draw to advance to the semi-finals.

China will play the Netherlands in the gold medal match later on Friday evening.
