Bravery honour for Murrurundi security guard

Posted August 25, 2008 13:34:00

An Upper Hunter security guard will get an Australian Bravery Award today, after he confronted an intruder at a local bowling club in 2006.

Tony Paul Aubeck was working as a security guard at the Murrurundi Bowling Club in November 2006 when a woman armed with a sawn-off shotgun confronted a staff member who was putting cash boxes in the club's safe.

Mr Aubeck heard the scuffle and distracted the offender, allowing the staff member to escape and call police.

After a short struggle, the security guard was eventually able to grab the shotgun and detain the offender until police arrived.

Mr Aubeck is one of 24 people who will receive an Australian Bravery Award today in recognition of his selfless bravery and national service.
