Farmers back dairy research farm

Posted August 26, 2008 08:23:00

Farmers have shown their support for the Department of Primary Industries' dairy research farm at Kyabram.

Eight people will lose their jobs when the farm is shut down in the middle of next year.

Several people turned out to a public meeting in the town yesterday.

Merrigum dairy farmer Greg Pell says the closure announcement came as a shock and he does not understand the reasoning behind it.

"In a climate change environment where we're all going through massive change to ... pull that research facility out at this stage ... it doesn't make, it hasn't got any commonsense whatsoever," he said.
