Street parade for Tas Olympians

Posted August 27, 2008 08:41:00

A welcome home parade for Tasmania's Olympic athletes will be held in Hobart next month.

Tasmania had a record 14 participants at the Beijing games.

The highlights included rower Scott Brennan winning gold in the double sculls, Hollie Grima winning silver in basketball and hockey players Matthew Wells, Eddie Ockenden and David Guest bringing home bronze.

The Minister for Sport and Recreation, Michelle O'Byrne, expects many will turn out for next month's parade.

"I think it will be wonderful to see the bulk of our athletes there and particularly our gold medal winner Scottie Brennan, " Ms O'Byrne said.

"It's wonderful to see we've had the highest level of participants of Tasmanians in the Olympics this year and that they've delivered equal to our best ever medal haul."

The parade will be held on September 20th.
