Gun shop near school rejected

Posted August 27, 2008 12:13:00

Wollongong council administrators have been applauded for rejecting plans for a gun shop near a primary school at Fairy Meadow.

An independent report to the council rejected an earlier favourable consideration of the proposed bulky goods warehouse, and proposed the administrators reject the application.

The decision was supported by parents and children from St John Vianney's Catholic School who attended the council meeting last night.

Administrator Gabrielle Kibble says they made the decision based on public interest.

"We've taken the decision after assessing the circumstances and placed what we consider to be the public interest in a paramount position," he said.
