Brumby avoids angry pipeline protesters

Victorian Premier John Brumby avoided north-south pipeline protesters during a visit to Shepparton last night.
Mr Brumby was in the Goulburn Valley for a dinner celebrating the $2 billion Foodbowl Modernisation Project.
The money is being spent on improvements to the region's irrigation infrastructure and some of the water savings will go to Melbourne.
Seventy pipeline protesters yelled at dinner guests as they walked in, but Mr Brumby arrived in the afternoon and avoided a confrontation.
Protester Lyn Hughes says the pipe will take away food producing water.
"How would you like it if all your livelihood was sold down the gurgler to Melbourne?" she said.
But Mr Brumby says it is a nation building project.
"This is a great project which will secure the future of this region and secure the future of our state," he said.
The pipeline still needs Federal Government approval.
