MP angry over Traveston EIS snub

Posted August 28, 2008 07:12:00

The Member for Gympie says the Deputy Premier will not allow him to have a copy of the supplementary environmental impact statement (EIS) for the controversial Traveston Crossing dam proposal in south-east Queensland.

David Gibson says Parliament was told earlier this week that the document had been submitted, but when he asked for a copy he was refused.

Mr Gibson says as the elected Member for the affected area he wants to see the statement so he can answer residents' concerns.

"Why won't this Government release the report widely?" he said.

"They've released it to the local government authorities in the area, they've released it to Government agencies for their comment.

"When it comes to the people of Queensland, Paul Lucas has made a mockery of Anna Bligh's promises for a fair and open and transparent government by his refusal to release the supplementary environmental impact statement."

The Deputy Premier's office says the supplementary environmental impact statement will be publicly released once it is completed.

A spokesman says the current report is not the finalised one which is why Mr Gibson is not allowed a copy yet.
