The gas explosion cut the state's gas supplies by a third.

A Senate Committee has agreed to hold a federal parliamentary inquiry into Western Australia's gas crisis, but it is unlikely it will start before the election.

The explosion caused widespread disruption in the WA, with gas supplies cut by a third, leaving hundreds of businesses with reduced energy.

The cause of the explosion remains a mystery, with Apache Energy refusing to reveal details of their investigation into the incident.

The Senate Economics Committee this morning agreed to an inquiry drafted by WA Liberal Senators, who argue the State Government had covered up its role in dealing with the June explosion.

In a statement, the Premier described the Senate inquiry as a "quite transparently politically motivated stunt."

Liberal Senator David Johnston said the inquiry is unlikely to start before the election.
