Warracknabeal track showing signs of salinity recovery

Posted August 28, 2008 09:00:00

Warracknabeal's last scheduled horse racing meeting for the year is being transferred as the local track continues to battle salinity problems.

There has been no racing at the Warracknabeal track since last year because salty water used on the turf has killed sections of grass.

A meeting due to be held there next month is being transferred to Donald.

But Wimmera Racing's Matt Hall says the track's surface is showing some signs of recovery.

"We're actually hoping that this can be a swap, rather than a transfer, in that the meeting scheduled for Donald on October 27 can be run at Warracknabeal," he said.

"There are some more positive signs in recent weeks. We are hopeful that we could run there on Monday, October 27 and I think it's vital that we run there, having run just one meeting in 18 months."
