Nationals campaign against Inpex plan

Posted August 28, 2008 10:46:00

The Nationals' candidate for the seat of Kimberley says, if elected, he will do everything in his power to ensure Inpex is not allowed to build a gas plant on the Maret Islands.

The Japanese firm is one of several companies hoping to process Browse Basin gas and has flagged building a processing facility on either the Maret Islands or in Darwin Harbour.

John McCourt is contesting the Kimberley for the Nationals and says, while he is pro-development, he believes the Maret Islands should remain untouched.

"I will be doing everything I can to discourage Inpex or anyone else for that matter, using the Maret Islands for the processing of LNG," he said.
