Smelter contractor unfazed by Nyrstar plans

The company that contracts workers to the Port Pirie smelter says it is not concerned about possible changes to the way Nyrstar runs operations.

Nyrstar last week announced its zinc plan, which employs 115 people, could be relocated to Hobart, after a three month review.

Steve Badman, the regional manager at McMahon Services, says between 50 and 80 of his employees work at the smelter on any given day.

"We haven't been affected very much at all so far with our manning levels, but I suppose, looking forward, we're at Nyrstar's demand," he said.
