Sports Commission boss calls for lottery boost

The outgoing head of the Australian Sports Commission Mark Peters says he supports the idea of a national lottery to boost funding for sport.
The national lottery in the UK generated millions of extra dollars for the British Olympic team which increased its medal haul at the Beijing Games.
Mr Peters resigned yesterday amid reports Sports Minister Kate Ellis was leading a purge of administrative appointees from the Howard Government era.
Mr Peters has confirmed he has accepted an overseas job offer but will not reveal any details at this stage.
He says new sources of funding have to be found for Australian sport.
"It (a lottery) would certainly help all of us in terms of writing less submissions to government, but I can understand why state treasuries oppose it," he said.
"But I think it would be an ideal solution to at least know the bucket of money we've got available rather than fighting each year for every dollar."
