Cloncurry water carting just a first step: Mayor

Posted August 29, 2008 10:07:00

The Mayor of a north-west Queensland town says the State Government's decision to fund water carting to it is not the end of its struggle for improved water infrastructure.

Queensland Cabinet has approved the funding towards water cartage to Cloncurry at an expected cost of $400,000 a month.

Premier Anna Bligh says cartage may be needed for up to six months.

Cloncurry Mayor Andrew Daniels says it will overcome the immediate crisis, but a long-term solution is still needed.

"Our council are going to keep pursuing this until we have what we think in place is a permanent water supply," he said.

"Premier Bligh has said this is a first step - she'll realise it's just a first step because we're not going to lay down now until we get the whole solution fixed up."
