Aerial culling to be reviewed: RSPCA

Posted August 29, 2008 10:35:00

The RSPCA says the Department of Agriculture and Food has agreed to review its aerial culling procedures and implement changes.

The animal welfare group has concluded an investigation into an aerial cull at Bidyadanga in which a number of horses were injured rather than killed outright.

The society is opposed to the culling of feral animals from moving platforms.

The organisation's Richard Barry says, while the department has not agreed to stop the practice, it has been willing to work with the charity to improve its animal welfare standards.

"The RSPCA and the ag department will be consulting with each other in a way they haven't before prior to culls and we will bash the details out. That in itself was a major development," he said.
