Green Triangle survey considers land use

Posted August 29, 2008 14:05:00

The debate over changes in land use has been played out in a survey of Green Triangle residents.

A new report just released by the University of Melbourne has revealed that plantations, cropping, dairying and rural residential development are viewed favourably.

But blue gum plantations are not as popular.

Melbourne University lead researcher Dr Kathryn Williams says social impacts were a major concern of the 1,300 respondents.

"People had a whole range of views on what the population impacts were, what the impacts were on employment and so forth and these seemed to be really influential on the way that people were thinking about plantations," she said.

The community perceptions will be compared with independent data later in the year.
