A 26-year-old man has been charged over an assault in Shepparton's south yesterday morning.

Police say two car loads of men became involved in an altercation at a service station on Melbourne Road about 12:30am AEST.

Police allege the 26-year-old Shepparton man assaulted two other men and stole their wallets and jewellery.

They say he then smashed a petrol bowser nozzle through their car window, and rammed their car with his four-wheel drive.

The two men were taken to the Goulburn Valley Hospital with minor head injuries.
