Police hunt Shepparton bank bandit

Posted September 2, 2008 12:07:00

Police are searching for a man who threatened staff and customers with a gun, during a bank hold-up in Shepparton yesterday morning.

A man holding a sawn-off shotgun walked into the Goulburn Murray Credit Union on Fryers Street at 9:45am AEST.

He told staff and customers to lie down on the floor, then demanded money from the bank tellers.

He walked out and got into a white or grey 1990s Ford Falcon sedan driven by another man.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Bailey from the Armed Crime Task Force says no-one was hurt, but the employees and customers were shaken.

"There was a lot of staff in there at the time and yes they are quite shocked and upset as a result of what's occurred," he said.

"But their manager's there and they're all discussing it and doing a bit of counselling on their own and they've shut the bank for the day."

The robber is described as being 30 to 40-years-old, overweight to obese, with dark skin and was wearing a white hooded jumper and a red cap.
