CSIRO welcomes BHP exec as new chief

Posted September 3, 2008 16:44:00

The CSIRO Staff Association says the announcement of a new chief executive is an opportunity to move in new directions.

Geologist and BHP Billiton executive Dr Megan Clark was appointed to the position today.

Staff Association president Michael Borgas says the appointment will bring a fresh approach.

"We've been aware for some time that Dr [Geoff ] Garrett wasn't going to continue so certainly having the uncertainty resolved is a great thing, but we're really welcoming the opportunity to move into new directions as well," he said.

"Staff are certainly hoping for simplification of our administrative procedures and for a more open and transparent governance and participation of staff in our work."
