Farmers warned of locust threat

Posted September 4, 2008 10:03:00

Farmers in northern Victoria and southern New South Wales are being warned to be on the lookout for signs of locusts over the next month.

The Australian Plague Locust Commission says reasonable concentrations of adult locusts moved into the area in late autumn.

The Commission's director, Chris Adriaansen, says those locusts are likely to have laid eggs which will probably hatch around late September and throughout October.

He says the major locust threat areas include Albury, Wodonga, Shepparton and the Echuca region.
