Govt moves to assist school drop-outs

Posted September 4, 2008 11:00:00

The ACT Government is moving to ensure teenagers who drop out of school before finishing year 12 do not end up unemployed.

The Government estimates around 10 per cent of students will leave school without going onto any other form of education or training.

ACT Education Minister Andrew Barr says new guidelines for high schools will help students from falling through the cracks.

"What we don't want is a situation where 10 per cent of our student population leaves school without going onto any form of education or training or work," he said.

"We can't have that, we can't allow that to occur, we must provide the education and training opportunities."
