500 cut off by floods on NSW north coast

Posted September 6, 2008 10:29:00

New South Wales Emergency Service says flooding has isolated around 500 people at Darkwood on the state's north coast.

The service's Phil Campbell says heavy rain has caused the Bellinger River to flood.

He says the situation will be monitored throughout the day.

"The people in Darkwood who are isolated, some 500 in total are on the Bellinger River and that area has been closed by flooding," he said.

"Assessments will be made on bridges, particularly the Hobart Bridge to see if that bridge can open later today."
