Police to investigate own role in fatal Sydney crash

Posted September 6, 2008 15:37:00

New South Wales police have launched an investigation into the role a police-pursuit played in a fatal crash in Sydney's north-west this morning.

Police were chasing a car shortly before it collided head-on with another car at Windsor just after 8.30am AEST.

Two women were killed in the crash and the man in the car being chased by police is in a critical condition.

Assistant Commissioner Tony McWhirter says police broke off the chase 4 kilometres before the accident happened.

"There are two separate investigations being conducted," he said.

"One is in relation to the collision itself, the other is in relation to the circumstances surrounding the police pursuit."
