Wounded digger in stable condition in Germany

Posted September 7, 2008 10:00:00

An Australian soldier who received life-threatening injuries in an ambush in Afghanistan last week is in a stable condition in hospital.

The man was one of nine special forces soldiers wounded in an attack by Taliban fighters in Oruzgan Province.

He has been evacuated to a United States medical facility in Germany after an attempt to move him last Friday was called off because his condition was too unstable.

A spokesman for Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon says his family is travelling to Germany.
