Calls for changes to ACT Prostitution Act

Sex workers in the ACT want Territory legislation to be changed to better protect their members.
The Scarlet Alliance says two sections of the Territory's Prostitution Act should be removed because they create stigma.
The issue was highlighted after a Western Australian man was charged with working as a prostitute in the ACT while knowingly being infected with HIV and hepatitis C.
Scarlet Alliance executive Janelle Fawkes says there is no need for two specific sections in the laws.
"Section 24 and 25 of the prostitution act should be removed," she said.
"We have in place in a Australia a set of national guidelines that outline the process for Government and health areas to manage anyone who puts another person at risk of HIV and other infections," she said.
