Voters 'came together' to support Oakeshott

The new independent federal member for the seat of Lyne on the New South Wales mid-north coast says he has been supported from voters from all political persuasions.
Former state MP Rob Oakeshott won about 64 per cent of the primary vote in yesterday's by-election for the seat, which has traditionally been held by the Nationals.
Mr Oakeshott told ABC1's Insiders the result shows the strength of community-based political movements in the area.
"A lot of people were celebrating yesterday - first time voters, older voters, people who've come from all sorts of political backgrounds all the way from Democrats through to One Nation," he said.
"So everyone came together with a common purpose which was to try to get some representation that deals with the substantial issues in this area."
The Nationals are now taking stock after the thrashing from Mr Oakeshott.
