Symonds's future up in the air

Posted September 7, 2008 22:10:00

Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive James Sutherland says he is uncertain as to whether star all-rounder Andrew Symonds will play for Australia again.

Symonds is considering his future after missing the one-day series against Bangladesh in Darwin for disciplinary reasons.

Sutherland says he hopes Symonds plays again, but says there is no shortage of talent in Australian cricket.

"One of the things that Australian cricket is lucky to have is exciting young talent that's knocking on the door waiting on the fringes," he said.

"People like Shane Watson may well get the opportunity that he's yearned for, for so long in his absence."
