The Queensland Opposition says the state's Health Minister Stephen Robertson is incompetent.

In the latest hospital controversy, the Health Quality and Complaints Commission (HQCC) will investigate allegations that a man died in the Townsville hospital while waiting for a bed.

Opposition health spokesman Mark McArdle says the man deserved to die with dignity.

Mr McArdle says it is yet another failure in the health system and Mr Robertson needs to accept responsibility.

"He is an incompetent Minister and that has been proven time and time again," he said.

"We have had issue after issue, case after case, and this particular very sad situation is simply one more case where Queensland Health governed by this State Government is failing Queenslanders.

Premier Anna Bligh says Mr Robertson has her full support and is performing well.

"Stephen Robertson is one of my hardest-working Ministers," she said.

"The health portfolio in any Government is one of the toughest.

"He is someone who's driving a very big reform agenda and sure there are tough issues and you're never going to have everything go perfectly, but Stephen is doing a wonderful job and he's got my full support."

Brisbane children's hospital

The Opposition also says the Queensland Government needs to heed the advice of medical staff on where to build a new children's hospital in Brisbane.

A meeting on the weekend supported plans to build a single children's hospital but there is disagreement about where it should be at the Mater on the southside or near the Royal Children's Hospital on the northside.

A final report is expected this week and Mr McArdle says the Government needs to take on board the recommendations.

"I've been approached by a number of people," he said.

"There are concerns about the site of the new hospital, there are concerns about it not being co-located to Royal Women's and there are concerns about whether it can grow on the new site to cater for the growth across south-east Queensland."
