Tigers maul Bega in Group 16 grand final

Posted September 8, 2008 12:48:00

Eden has claimed another Group 16 rugby league premiership.

The Tigers were too strong for Bega in yesterday's seniors' grand final at Bega and ran out winners, 32-8.

The Eden club also won the reserves, with Tathra taking out the under 18s. Bega was the losing side in each one.

Eden Tigers' captain-coach Mark Miller was man of the match with three tries and afterwards said it was still too early to take in the significance of three in a row.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could win three in a row with my best mates down at Eden. I'm still trying to pinch myself and it probably won't sink in until I'm at home one day and I realise what we've done," he said.

"What about four in a row? There's always a chance of four if you're a Tiger," he said.

In Aussie rules, the Merimbula Diggers have continued their giant killing run into the finals by accounting for Pambula in Saturday's preliminary final of the Sapphire Coast competition.

The Diggers won 10.8 (68) to 7.12 (54) and will now meet defending premiers Batemans Bay in next Saturday's grand final.

In the reserves, Eden accounted for Batemans Bay on Saturday and will now play Bermagui in the big one.
