Nowra residents air defence policy worries

Posted September 12, 2008 13:00:00

Concerns have been expressed at a public meeting at Nowra over aspects of the Federal Government's defence policy.

About 30 people attended the meeting as part of the Department's Defence White Paper Community Consultation Program.

The Department of Defence also heard locals' concerns over a skills shortage and its impact on the naval aviation force at HMAS Albatross.

Rear Admiral Simon Harrington says the concerns raised at the meeting will be included in a report to Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon.

"Having done some 35 public consultations throughout Australia, we will compile a report which will be presented to the Minister for Defence and the Opposition spokesman on defence and that will then feed into the writing of the white paper," he said.
