Tasmanian Liberal party hopeful Vanessa Goodwin says drinking wine on an empty stomach led to her losing her driver's licence.

The 39-year-old criminologist was caught drink driving at Acton Park last month, recording a blood alcohol reading of 0.052.

The matter went to the Magistrates Court in Hobart where a charge of driving a motor vehicle while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit was withdrawn.

Goodwin has instead been issued with a fine and disqualified from driving for three months.

She says she was surprised to have been over the limit after having only two glasses of wine.

"It's a lesson that I've learnt and I take full responsibility for it of course but I hope that my experience will raise awareness for other women in particular who may be prevented from making the same mistake that I did," she said.
