Electoral proposals under scrutiny

There's some concern about proposed changes to electoral boundaries in Tasmania. (ABC)

The Australian Electoral Commission has released details of the public response to proposed new Tasmanian Federal electoral boundaries.

The fate of Latrobe in the north-west, and debate over whether to change the name of the Denison electorate, dominate.

The Electoral Commission accepted nearly 50 submissions commenting on the draft boundaries it unveiled a month ago.

Many are critical of the proposal to move Latrobe from the seat of Braddon into Lyons.

Meanwhile the Labor Party, Hobart's Lord Mayor Rob Valentine and several others maintain that Denison should be re-named Inglis-Clark.

The Liberal Party's submission says the boundaries would uneccesarily force more than 16 thousand Tasmanian voters to change electorates.

The commission will accept public comments on the objections until Friday next week, and the finalised boundaries should be revealed early next year.
