Environinvest woes 'no threat' to plantation industry

Posted September 24, 2008 12:35:00

A group representing timber plantation companies says the industry is still strong in Victoria's west, despite a company going into receivership.

Environinvest owns 10,000 hectares of blue gum plantations around Ararat, Beaufort and Skipton.

Receivers have been called in to sell off the company's assets.

Alan Cummine from the Treefarm Managed Investors Association says timber plantations closer to the coast have a bright future.

"With the developments at Portland at the port and woodchip facilities being developed there's no reason why a small company like Environinvest should threaten in any way the strength of the industry," he said.
