Nambucca Mayor sets sights on projects

Posted September 25, 2008 08:47:00

The Nambucca Shire's new mayor says her new council's attention will initially centre on three major projects.

Rhonda Hoban was popularly elected to the job after serving a single term as a councillor and two years as deputy Mayor.

She says among the big challenges are a new local environment plan and an asset and infrastructure management program.

The Mayor says the council also has to develop a long-term water supply which will require design, costing and funding for a large new dam.

"The main reason that the off-stream storage dam has ... become such an issue is that back in 2002/'03 and '04 during the drought our shire reached a point where we had 65 days water supply left and that's with our existing population," she said.

"So obviously the security of our water supply came into question."
